Broadway and Disney Vets Bring Knowledge and Fun to New Performing Arts Studio Near Baker Ranch & The Great Park
Husband and Wife team bring Broadway to the OC with their new performing arts studio open to all performers of all ages and abilities. Located near the OC's Great Park on the corner of Irvine, Lake Forest, and Portola Hills, they are most likely less than a 5-15 minutes drive from you.
"Whether your child wants to begin singing, dancing, or acting at a young age like I did, or if they are just beginning in their teenage years like Troy, we have a place for them."
Darcie and Troy have successfully been mentoring students in the entertainment industry throughout their careers. They are ready to put brick and mortar around their philosophy to dream big, work hard and have fun.
Providing a place for young performers to grow in the performing arts is at the foundation of Darcie and Troy's vision. Dance, voice, and acting- three things you need to be able to do very well to have a career on Broadway." said Darcie.
"When I was younger, I was so fortunate to have teachers who were professionals in the industry and were able to mentor me. Looking back, it was critical to my growth as an artist. We hope to provide the same for our students."
However, to get a well-round arts education, my mom had to drive for hours all over the LA area. That's what we believe we can do differently. We want to offer a diverse experience for both recreational and pre-professional performers all in one location.
Parents and students have loved their experiences; one parent whose daughter went on to appear in Fun Home on Broadway said," Darcie's training is second to none! The growth my daughter experienced was fantastic!"
Another parent said, "Since studying with Darcie, my daughter has appeared in many equity shows, performed at Carnegie Hall, and cast in Broadway's development lab of Frozen.
The idea of opening Broadway Arts Studio has been a dream for Darcie and Troy. Collectively they have been in the industry for over 60 years. Their diverse experience ranges from Broadway musicals, commercials, and TV to directing, choreographing and creative development for the Disney Parks. Darcie has performed with some of Broadway's most acclaimed stars and creative teams. In contrast, Troy has taught Musical Theatre at the University of Southern California and the University of California, Irvine.
Morgan Marcell, is now a Broadway actress (Hamilton, In The Heights, Moulin Rouge) and filmmaker (The Eliza Project) who mentored with Troy and Darcie said, "Darcie and Troy are true professionals. They're the most encouraging, positive people in the biz, and their stage experience is truly unmatched."
Their students have gone on to perform on Broadway, The Voice, TV, commercials, and film. Many have successfully studied with Darcie and Troy for audition prep for top colleges and UCI, USC, UCLA, and Orange County School of the Arts.
"We are creating a place to belong."
"We want Broadway Arts Studio to be a place for everyone to feel welcome. While we will have a place for all ages and something for everyone, we can't wait to see kids in our studios, dancing, singing, and having fun!"
Troy, who studied dance at the renowned Point Park University, says, "the benefits of training in musical theatre go beyond a career in the arts. In today's marketplace, interpersonal skills that dancing, singing, and acting provide translate into real-world scenarios and careers. Personal growth goes beyond the obvious, skills like peer collaboration, self-confidence, risk-taking, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, perseverance, trust, and dealing with the unknown all can develop while singing, dancing, and acting.
Michael, an Executive VP of Creative Entertainment, Disney says, "Troy is a talented creative force and an innovative thinker. His extensive knowledge of theater, dance, and music makes him a wonderful and collaborative creative leader, who is a joy to work with. I highly recommend him!"
Starting with a mini-inaugural season from April to June, Broadway Arts Studio will offer a creative preschool program, on-going training in dance, voice and acting, fun spring break and summer camps, youth productions, and a performance team. They will also offer a senior dance program and parent musical theatre & dance fitness classes.
Darcie has starred in dozens of Broadway shows, tours, regional productions and has guest-starred in concerts, recordings, and TV. Darcie is a sought out actress most recently performing with Sutton Foster in her concert series and on her album. She teaches private voice, and has been teaching several workshops around the world.
She is now a 3rd generation studio owner having grown-up studying dance in her grandmother's Chino, California dance studio. Troy grew up in Orlando, performing at Disney World and in local theater.
The two met in New York City while both were performing in New York, and an NYC romance blossomed into a 22+ year marriage and four kids AND now a performing arts studio.
